Today, September 25, by invitation of the Armenian Centre for Speleology, two members from the Bulgarian Cave Society ( BCS ), consisting of Teodora Georgieva and George Vlaykov travelled to Armenia. The colleagues will join the international research expedition dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian Speleological Centre.
The surveys will be carried out in the Vaiot-Dzora area, located in the south-eastern part of the country and whose maximum altitude is 3522m at the Vardinis volcano. The program includes the visit and compilation of expert speleological descriptions of several caves with particular cultural and historical sentiment in order to further preserve them as monuments of culture and their possible socialization. The studies will be carried out in compliance with a decree of the Republic of Armenia in this respect. In addition, other religious sites will be visited – churches, monasteries and petroglyphs. The program will take place until October 10, after which the Bulgarian participants will travel to Ukraine, where they will take part in the next congress of the Ukrainian Speleological Association in which they are members together with three more Bulgarians. Bulgarian participants will make their journey with a jeep.
